What information do I need to configure a SIP terminal?
When you subscribe to a VoIP service, configuring your SIP terminal is a necessary step to start making and receiving calls. This configuration relies on technical parameters provided by the service seller once your order has been validated.
After subscribing through the marketplace, you receive a confirmation email containing all the information required to configure your SIP terminal. This email is usually titled “Validation of your phone line” and includes the essential SIP credentials.
Information required to configure a SIP terminal
The configuration email typically contains the following details, which must be entered into your SIP phone, softphone, or IP PBX:
- Assigned number: the phone number linked to your SIP line
- SIP username: used to authenticate your terminal
- SIP password: associated with the SIP username
- SIP server: the server address provided by the seller
- SIP port: usually 5060 or 7060
- Audio codecs: G729, G711u, G711a
These parameters allow your terminal to register correctly on the VoIP network and route calls properly.
Voicemail and service access codes
Additional service codes are often provided to help you manage calls directly from your SIP terminal.
- Voicemail access: *98
- Interface access: *77 (default password: 777)
- Enable or disable call forwarding: *21
Using these codes, you can check your voicemail, access basic line settings, or activate call forwarding without logging into an external interface.
Network and compatibility considerations
In some network environments, the default SIP port 5060 may be blocked by firewalls or internet service providers. If this happens, port 7060 can usually be used as an alternative.
The listed audio codecs are selected to ensure a balance between call quality and bandwidth usage. Most SIP-compatible devices support these codecs by default.
The role of the marketplace
As a marketplace, Hivoox does not configure SIP terminals directly. Instead, it connects professionals and businesses with sellers offering VoIP services and provides clear guidance on how to use the technical information supplied with each service.
If you encounter difficulties during configuration, the seller offering the VoIP service remains the appropriate point of contact for technical assistance related to the SIP line.
